Pound It

Pound it (Fist Bump) is a fun trick to do with your dog and show to family and friends. A treat pouch would be helpful in this trick so that when you hold out a fist, your dog is not sniffing at it to get treats inside.

To start with get your dog to sit and reward her with a treat. Hold out your fist and if your dog paws your fist give a verbal cue such as ‘pound it’, then reward her and give her praise. This method will probably not work as teaching a new command, there are other ways you can teach your dog.

Alternatives

Get your dog to sit and reward her with a treat. Then holding your fist out, get her to paw. If her paw goes on top of your fist, say a verbal cue such as ‘pound it’ and reward her with a few treats. If your dog paws below or above your fist do these things: If your dog is pawing above your fist, when she paws lift your fist up so it touches her paw. Then say a verbal cue such as ‘pound it’ and reward her with a treat.

If your dogs’ paw is below your fist, try again but this time put your fist lower. Repeat this until your dogs paw is resting on top of your fist and say a verbal cue such as ‘pound it’ and reward her with lots of treats.
