Agility

Training: Agility

Agility is a fantastic way to get outside and spend some time with your dog. It is a fun sport to do where you guide your dog through an obstacle course as quickly and accurately as possible. You can do this as a fun training session at home or eventually compete in agility. Most dogs really enjoy doing this with their owners because they are mentally stimulated whilst getting physical exercise.

The commands used for agility are listed at the end of this article.

Setting Up An Agility Course

Agility courses can vary in what equipment they use and how long and big they are. In competitions, you may need to repeat some obstacles a few times.

To set up a course, you need to spread some different equipment out, this equipment could be:

  • A-Frame
  • Tunnel
  • Jumps
  • Wing Jump
  • Pause Table
  • Tire Jump
  • Seesaw
  • Dog Walk
  • Collapsed Tunnel
  • Weave Poles

Make sure to start of simple with only a few pieces of equipment so that you set your dog up for success and not frustration. Also be careful that you train obstacles with contact areas (A-Frame, Seesaw, Dog Walk) correctly in case you and your dog ever go competitively.
